The Plain Janes graphic novel

Have seen this around the web a lot recently so i thought I would check it out. The Plain Janes by Cecil Castellucci and illustrated by Jim Rugg is a graphic novel aimed at teenage girls. Even though that is not me any longer I still rather enjoyed it. I specifically enjoyed the P.L.A.I.N. (People Loveing Art In Neighborhoods) art pieces the 4 Janes created in their town. Though they were known as "art terrorists" it made me really wish that I had taken sculpture in college. Very cute and inspirational. "Art saves."

The Darjeeling Limited

I was pleasantly suprised this morning to come across the trailer for the new Wes Anderson movie. He's my favorite director so there was some screaming involved. Check it out, very colorful. Unlike some of his previous movies this one is coming out in September not December! It will be interesting to see how Adrien Brody fits into Wes Anderson's world.

Came across an interesting flickr group containing photos of the items people carry around with them on their person or in their purse/bag whatever. Pretty interesting.

Wrongboy's History of Earth

My friend gave me this book last year for my birthday. I just pulled it out again, because I enjoyed it so much. I didn't really know anything about the author because she had gotten this in London. I finally did some research today and he has a website! The author's name is Will Bishop-Stephens and just recently graduated with an MA from the Royal College of Art in 2006. I believe this is his first book but there is a lot of stuff on his website, including some short films. One point of interest for me concerning the book is the fact that tapirs are involved. The tapir is my favorite animal. Besides that, the drawings are great and the book is just down right hilarious. I hope to see more from him :)

Inside Out Teddy Bears

This has been all over the web the last week or so but in case you missed it.... Ken Rogowski has taken teddy bears and turned them inside out. He currently has a show at the Foley Gallery and a recently published book of this work. See some images and an interview here.

Adrian Tomine

Adrian Tomine is one of my favorite illustrators/graphic novelists. He is known for his comic Optic Nerve, doing illustration for the New Yorker and other commercial work. His line work and color choices are very distinctive. The newest edition of Optic Nerve #11 just came out in March. Check out some of his work here.
